CLAIM
A photo of Home Minister Amit Shah shaking hands with former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh is being circulated on social media to claim that the Congress leader met with the BJP leader and will join the saffron party soon.

TRUTH
The photo is from June 2019 when the then Punjab CM met Shah to discuss development work related to his state.
Although Singh resigned as Punjab CM on September 18, 2021, there have been no credible reports of him joining BJP or any other political party yet.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Using reverse-image search, we found a tweet from the official Twitter handle of Singh dated June 27, 2019, where he posted the same image.

“Called on Home Minister Amit Shah ji to take up with the Press Information Department, Govt of Pakistan the issue of constructing an overbridge on Ravi for Kartarpur Corridor. My demand for a National Drugs Policy has highlighted the issue & the Indian Home Minister is working on a detailed & coordinated strategy for Punjab and J&K,” read Singh’s tweet.
The tweet contained total three photos from his meeting with Shah.
News agency ANI also tweeted about it on June 27, 2019

VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that a 2019 photo is being shared to falsely claim that former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh met Amit Shah to join BJP.
