At Paul Stuart, Creative Director Ralph Auriemma maintains the DNA of the brand while moving the silhouettes and styling forward for the modern man.
With a laser focus on fabric and construction, the Modern American Sartorial collection is the mainstay of Paul Stuart’s fall offering. Auriemma explains, “For over 80 years, Paul Stuart has presented contemporary American men’s clothing to its clientele with the attitude of an English heritage brand.”
Equestrian-style tweeds are what Paul Stuart is about this season. This fall, these have a lighter color palette and are hand-finished in Italy giving them a soft hand that Auriemma pairs with horizontal cotton corduroys. Italian wool suits are available in subtle plaids and chalk stripes that are elegant, not trendy. It’s a uniquely modern approach to sartorial dressing that incorporates traditional tailoring details.
Made in Italy, felted cashmere jackets that wear like a cardigan are worn with lightweight flannel pants and topped with Italian double-faced bonded wool robe style belted coats. Auriemma says, “We are offering a new jacket silhouette that has the feel of a cardigan with an ultra-soft construction in felted cashmere, corduroy, wool, and tweed. These pair effortlessly with a turtleneck and sneakers for a relaxed, comfortable look.”
Stylish coats trimmed with luxurious beaver fur for dressy occasions and technical jackets that protect against winter’s snow and sleet are an essential component of every well-dressed man’s wardrobe. Auriemma says, “The clothing styles and the materials have evolved with the times. Our customers want to look good with a dash of style and flair – It is what we are known for at Paul Stuart.” Auriemma also takes inspiration from military styles. For instance, one of the new outerwear styles is a zippered Italian Nappa leather bomber jacket with a sheared beaver fur lining and collar.
Paulette Garafalo, CEO, and President of Paul Stuart says, “The Paul Stuart fall collection continues to mirror the contemporary attitude that our clientele requests from us. These new styles reflect our customers’ desire to feel comfortable while looking great.”
The Highlander group of sportswear is a luxurious approach to functional and rugged clothing. It is equally appropriate for the hills of Scotland as it is for the climb at Belvedere Castle in New York’s Central Park.
The collection consists of sumptuous sportswear that includes Scottish cashmere sweaters, shetland plaid trousers, and wide-wale Italian corduroy sports jackets that are combined to create new styles filled with texture and pattern. “I always like to feature bold material and color at Paul Stuart; it’s the brand’s DNA,” says Auriemma. “These Highlander styles are defined by an eclectic mix of ideas that when seen together have a strong point of view.”
The tailored jackets feature suede elbow patches and scalloped sleeve trim that historically were added for durability. Rugged but sophisticated wool cardigans with shearling trim, slash pockets, and leather-covered buttons. Auriemma advises men to wear them with colorful pants or traditional flannels. Jacket patterns include hunting and gun check paired with pre-washed cotton twill trousers. Lastly, there are C.P.O. style shirts in green and brown wool and shearling field jackets with barn coat pockets.
