Cam Newton‘s tenure in New England came to an abrupt and unceremonious end on Tuesday when he was cut by the Patriots after just one season with the organization. The 32-year-old former MVP seemed to be the favorite to start Week 1, but Bill Belichick and company clearly believe that first-round draft pick Mac Jones is ready now. As for Cam, one team in need of a backup has already expressed interest, and while it’s likely he ends up on some team’s 53-man roster before the 2021 season kicks off, it’s still a stunning fall from grace for the 2015 NFL MVP.
