Egypt enforces additional measures against COVID-19 at all ports

Egypt’s Health and Population Ministry announced that additional precautionary measures have been taken against the spread of the coronavirus at all quarantine entry points to the country, as new strains of the virus have been reported around the world.

The announcement of these measures came during a video-conference meeting held by the Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed in the presence of the Assistant Minister for Public Health Initiatives Mohamed Hassany, the head of the Central Administration for Preventive Affairs Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, and several of the ministry leaders in quarantine and preventive medicine.

The meeting reviewed the preventive and precautionary measures applied in quarantine at all entry points to the country.

A ministry statement said that Zayed confirmed that additional precautionary measures in quarantine will be implemented at all entry points to the country (land, sea, and air), including a rapid DNA test (ID NOW) for all arrivals to the country in addition their medical examinations.

According to Zayed, this rapid DNA testing is capable of diagnosing and infection in no more than 15 minutes.

Zayed also confirmed the continued implementation of the Prime Minister’s decision regarding health protocols for arrivals to Egypt, which includes barring them from entering the country until after obtaining a PCR certificate confirming they are negative for infection.

The minister credited Egypt’s swift implementation of  precautionary measures at all entry points as soon as the World Health Organization warned, in addition to the full commitment to implement the Prime Minister’s decision, as contributing to reducing infection rates and preventing the entry of new strains of the virus.

Zayed stressed that all epidemiological surveillance measures will continue among all entry points to the country, as well as the continuation of all laboratory and clinical examinations for arrivals to Egypt from all countries of the world.

Over 5.41 million people coming from abroad to quarantine have been examined at all entry points since the beginning of the pandemic, she added.
